Our Story
We are so incredibly blessed to have you on our page and that you have chosen to find out a little more about who we are here at Wicked Grain! Truth be told, we didn’t actually set out to start a business, which makes this experience all the more amazing! I guess you could say that the concept was a seed planted in our hearts long before we ever knew it. For us, what became Wicked Grain simply started as a desire to create a “home”. Not the four walls of a house, or maybe even an office or business, but the feeling of creating an environment that says,
“This is me. This is my space.”
The beginning was a husband and wife team that took on fun side projects, but over the years the two separated but remand friends. Jacob took over the business and brought in one of is good friends Elijah Kleine to help with the creativity process. Elijah is a very artistic individual that looks tackles projects with amazing attention to detail and creativity. He is a master packer and an amazing photographer as well. Jacob (a former HS art teacher and art major) has had a life long passion for art. He was inspired by his grandfather who was an amazing woodworker and craftsman. Jacob grew up drawing and painting daily, so teaching HS art came natural to him and was a life long dream. He shared his passion of the arts with young adults and taught this real world work skills that were art inspired. Throughout his teachings, Jacob would create wooden art pieces and tables along side of students and they would sell/auction them to staff members to make more money for new and updated art supplies. Jacob quickly turned his love of building things into a side hobby and business. He rented a small space out of a local metal shop and would work there after work or on the weekends. He started posting and selling items on Craigslist, Marketplace, and to friends and the local community. This business quickly took off and now is his full-time job/career which turned into Wicked Grain.
We keep things simple around here and we try not to take ourselves too seriously, which you’ll be able to tell by the names of some of our pieces. We do, however, take what we do very seriously, and what we do is help you transform your space into something uniquely yours. Thank you for taking the time to visit us! And remember, whether you're a DIY'er looking for good quality slabs or reclaimed wood to create your own piece(s) of art or you prefer we handle the messy stuff for you, don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know how we can help you transform your space!
Uniquely yours,
Jacob Matz
